Welcome to the Vindictus Wiki![]

I'm not so sure we have a "group", but if we do, every editor is a welcome member of it, whether they are correcting a typo or filling in a blank :). --Wynthyst 14:56, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Anyone Wanna Help?[]

Does anyone wanna help me on ep9.5?

I'm finishing up the dialogue for the new stories, though I heard that the God of the Fomors one isn't fully translated, so there's nothing I can do for that one. I'll add in the Easter stories as well, got them typed up right now. I'll go over the items and stuff later to make sure everything is updated and correct. I noticed Rognik has been adding stuff in too.

When you go to edit pages, there's a "show preview" button beside "save page" button. It'll let you check out any changes you have made before saving it, so you can check for errors or anything you might have missed. That will cut down on some of the editing spam that you have been doing. Every time someone edits a page there's a little notice to admins beside it. That lets us know something has been changed and none of the admins has looked at it yet. When there's been multiple editing sessions done for a single page, we have to look over each one to remove the notice from it. It's just a little bit annoying to have to go through so many unnecessary edits, is all. :P --Masqtalk 02:21, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

You might want to take a look at the Help:Guidelines page to get an idea on the correct formatting of some of the things, such as image consistency. Basically all item/equipment icons should be 40x40. I noticed the ones that you did were some random sizes, and I have fixed them. Items are okay to be in color. Equipment (not including accessories) should be gray-scale or black/white. If you are uploading a brand new icon, you can add the category in the comment section (this only works for brand new pages). It'll likely either be or . If it is an existing picture, just edit the page and add the category in if it is missing. The other icon categories are , , and .

Another thing about pictures. When creating an item or equipment page, you only need to put something in the |image= spot if the item name contains characters not allowed in file names, such as : (example: Watchtower: The Witch. The filename for this one used - instead of : because : is not allowed to be in file names.). Otherwise you can leave it blank, and when you upload the file for it the page will automatically link to it. It's just one less thing to worry about (you had a couple of them linking to the wrong pages, oops :) ) If you have any questions about anything, feel free to leave something on my talk page and I'll help you out. --Masqtalk 05:32, 01 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm always happy to help update stuff, but my home comp can't currently handle the client, so I'm periodic in getting new info. You're free to update whatever you have info on, though. As far as story formats, I usually just go to one of the pages already updated, copy over the template, and then change the appropriate parts. Lately, though, I've just been too lazy to do it properly. --Rognik <insert flourish> 05:55, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Enemy Pictures[]

It's a crop out from a previous image here --ʐĪ±mes - Ļ„Ī±Å‚Īŗ 20:26, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

I used paint.net to crop the background out of the previous picture. You can use whatever image editing software you have/like. I just use paint.net because it's free and has a low memory footprint. Another good program is Gimp. Photoshop is a bit demanding on ram to run it, because it's loaded with features and stuff (that you'll probably never end up using anyway).
I like to crop out the background on the enemy pictures because it looks much nicer with the wiki background. I tend to work on cropping during loading times, when I'm waiting for someone or if I'm bored. It's relatively easy to crop things, though if you want a really neat crop you have to work a little longer on it. I'll be slowly working on updating all of the enemy pictures and getting higher quality pictures to replace the low quality ones as I go along. --Masqtalk 02:41, 06 May 2012 (UTC)
The program itself is called paint.net lol, so the right one. Kind of a strange name for a program, given that websites sometimes use .net instead of .com or other things. Download button is on the right side of that page. The only thing you'll want to be aware of is when saving (like saving a picture in the program), make sure there's no dithering. Dithering lowers the quality and makes little blotchy spots appear (due to the low quality). Once set it'll remember it the next time you go to save something. By default it should be saving files in .png format, which is what you want.--Masqtalk 02:54, 06 May 2012 (UTC)

Uploading[]

If you look to the left side of the wiki page, at the very bottom of the list there is a title that says Toolbox. Under it is a link that says Upload file. Clicking on that takes you to the upload page, where it'll ask for the source of the file that you want to upload, the destination file name and a summary. For pages that use a specific picture, the file is generally named after the page. Example: The Leather page has leather.png as the item icon picture. The summary portion is where you can leave a note about the picture or input the category it belongs to. Inputting the category in the summary only works if the file is uploaded for the first time.

So lets say you were uploading leather.png for the first time. You could put in the summary box, and when you click to upload the file it'll attach the category and save it. For files that you are uploading a newer version of, the summary box will simply leave your message as a message on the page. You can leave a message to explain the reason for the newer file, such as "higher quality" or "fixing transparency", and so on. In the case of an existing file that does not have a category assigned, you would have to edit the page and add the category in that way. For your equipment images, add to your summary box when uploading the pictures for the first time.

I think only admins can delete pictures, but you can mark a page for deletion with delete. It'll flag the page for deletion in its own separate category and one of us can review it.

When editing pages, be sure to use the "Show preview" button to look over the changes you have made without saving first. It'll help prevent the spam editing you have been doing to add in something you've missed the first time around. If you find you still need to make changes, do your edits and then preview again.--Masqtalk 01:17, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: Upload Page?[]

Only admins may delete images. I think this is the uploading page you're looking for, http://www.vindictuswiki.com/wiki/Special:Upload, which can be found on the sidebar under the Toolbox section "Upload file". --ʐĪ±mes - Ļ„Ī±Å‚Īŗ 00:42, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Battle Map[]

I do not know how to get a dungeon map image. If I did, I would have responded to your question on the talk page. I'm not ignoring you, promise :) Basdeth 19:56, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Stories[]

I changed Category:Stories to Stories, thanks for the suggestion. --BUMBLE 15:31, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Seal Icons[]

You can use the original 40x40 icons and just resize them to whatever size needed in your template instead of uploading the same icons but smaller.

-> Seal of Bravery

--ʐĪ±mes - Ļ„Ī±Å‚Īŗ 03:59, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I see it, I just don't know what you're trying to do. Also I'm going to sleep, I'll look up on it in the morning. --ʐĪ±mes - Ļ„Ī±Å‚Īŗ 04:23, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind me stepping in, I went ahead and got the different currency types in there for you. I replaced the enjoyment parameter with a currency parameter, so just stick |currency=currency type (dedication, enjoyment, etc) and it should work. If you have any questions or concerns let me know. And thanks for noticing this needed doing :) Basdeth 09:20, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Request[]

Hi! I've sent Bumble an e-mail about your request and am waiting for her to respond, since I'm not sure if I'm allowed to promote people to admins or not. If you want, you can add me on MSN / Skype for any further questions about this. If you e-mail me your contact info, I'll add you. 怜Celadontalk 12:55, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

I take pride in my superhuman question-responding senses. It's like I have some strange connection with my talk page and will automatically visit it as soon as someone changes it... or maybe it's because I get notifications via e-mail whenever someone edits it and I always check my inbox. You're very welcome and I'm glad to be of assistance! :D 怜Celadontalk 13:00, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
By "contact info", I meant e-mail address or MSN/Skype if you have either of them. MSN and Skype are instant messaging platforms/programs that are free to use. If you don't have MSN/Skype, that's fine -- just your e-mail would be good, too. 怜Celadontalk 13:08, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey, you!/Admin[]

I've promoted you to an administrator. Use your powers for good and whatnot. Congratulations and thanks for all the contributions you've done for the wiki. Enjoy! 怜Celadontalk 14:57, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

I've noticed when you upload item icons and the like that you don't tend to follow the correct format and we've had to re-upload the images to correct them. So, I'll explain the formatting here a bit. For icons of both item and equipment, the size should be 40x40 and typically in .png format. Item icons can have color, but equipment icons should be in grayscale. Only equipment accessories can have color, like earrings, belts, rings and emblems. Fiona's shield should be in grayscale too. The need for grayscale weapons and armor is because people can dye them funky colors, so it's best to remain with a neutral color for their icons when uploading here, which is grayscale.
When uploading a picture for the first time, you can add comment. This is usually where you put what category the picture belongs to. For item icons, it's . For equipment icons, it's . If there is already an existing image and you're uploading a new version, adding the comment category will not apply it. If the previous uploader did not add a category, you will have to edit the page and stick the category in.
When editing pages, please try to use the "show preview" button before "save page". There's been times where you've done 10 edits to the same page in 10 minutes which could have been done in one or two edits if you previewed it first. It helps cut down on the spam editing and makes it easier for others to verify the page contents when there's fewer edits done. It also makes it easier for you to verify that what you've changed is how you wanted it to be. Just have to love it when you're missing a [ or } and break the page, only realizing it after you've saved it.
Continuing on with user edits, you'll notice on the recent changes page that there is now an exclamation mark ! on non-admin edits. This is a notification to any admins that the page should be patrolled to verify that what the user edited in is appropriate. When you click on the diff button it'll send you to a page showing the difference between the two pages. There will be a button saying "Mark as patrolled" on the right side edit, just below the username of who edited it. You can also find a Mark as patrolled button on the bottom right of any non-admin edited pages if you didn't go to them via the diff button on the recent changes. Either of the "Mark as patrolled" buttons will do the job. If needed you can either undo or edit the page if you notice mistakes or vandalism. Typically for vandalism we ban usernames for extreme offenses permanently, and ban ip addresses for 3 days on first offense, 1 week for any recurring offenses. Don't permanently ban ip addresses though, only temporary. You shouldn't really run into much vandalism now. Awhile back the spambots were a real nuisance when they got through the filters. Been pretty quiet for vandalism lately, which is nice.
As always, if you need anything just let me know on my talk page. --Masqtalk 16:32, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
The easiest way for a 40x40 image is to use the vindictusdb.com website. All their icons are 40x40 and are grayscale for equipment and colored for items. This is because they are taken directly from the game files. You could also do a screenshot in game, but depending on your resolution the size might differ. Using the database is a lot easier and it's exactly what you need. Just take a screenshot of what you want and crop the picture out. Pretty simple. :D For other types of images, such as npc pictures or battle mini maps let me know what you need and I can see about obtaining it. I was actually working on finishing the /maps pages for all of the battles, and will continue with that once I'm done with the episode 10 stuff. I think I still need to fix the Easter Bunny NPC image. I did a quick crop from a screenshot in game, but if I can locate it in the game files I can get a nice clean image. That will be a project for another day. --Masqtalk 17:21, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
To get map files and other images, you'd need to extract them from the game files. We're not supposed to divulge the method to extract them, but for those that know that's how you'd obtain them. So if you noticed something is missing for images, just let me know and I'll see about obtaining it for you. --Masqtalk 20:17, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
I've been using the to help me figure out which battles needed a minimap showing for the battle quest, although I too noticed that this category does not remove the battles that actually do have maps. I'm not exactly sure why it is behaving this way, so I might get one of the other admins to take a look and find out. Don't worry too much about the battles in that category for now. I'm currently working on finishing all of those with a /map page and will upload any missing maps as needed. It seems this category only removed one battle recently. Last I checked it said 90 and now it's 89. I've done all the battles for Ainle, Ruins of Sanctity and Prairie Entrance in the last few days though, so something is definitely wrong. --Masqtalk 02:44, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Screenshot Tabs[]

Hullo! I noticed you've been adding some screenshot tabs - thank you! And I'd like to draw your attention to a change that was recently made to the screenshot tab implementation. You no longer have to list the characters that can wear the equipment in the screenshottab parameter - any text will do. It still works if you list the characters, but I think it's easier to only have to make sure the characters are listed correctly in one place (class parameter for Sets and restriction parameter for Equipment). Anyway, carry on! Basdeth 02:47, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Item Icon[]

VDBCleanIcon

Highlight the icon you want to take. Right-Click and select the View Selection Source. It'll open up the html information where you can find the link to the image. Copy the link to your URL, don't click on it directly because you won't be able to save it as a file. Then just Save Image As, and upload it here. Hopefully that made sense :x?

I think Masq mentioned it to you in an earlier post somewhere but you can go to the Vindictus DB and grab clean icons. Save them to your computer and upload here. You'll need to right click and view source selection (I think, It's one of the right click options but I'm on my touch atm so I can't verify) and find the image link. --ʐĪ±mes - Ļ„Ī±Å‚Īŗ 01:35, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

RE: Help (Equipment List Icons)[]

Good catch! I've changed the equipment list template; it should be fixed now :) Basdeth 21:22, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Template:Incomplete[]

I believe I gave this template the function you were going for. If you would like some help with a template or something you can message me or pop into the Wiki IRC and I'd be happy to lend a hand. I just don't have time in life to work on this stuff continuously like I was before. --Sigil Baramtalk 04:14, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Reverting my edit to Polar Bear drops[]

Why. I just ran that dungeon like 15 times. It drops what I said it drops. As far as I'm aware, the only real way to know what monsters drop what items is by players seeing the items drop. Even the DB's droplists aren't complete, which leads me to believe they are obtaining the information in the same way. So why would you just revert people's edits when they add drop information? Can you confirm that the monsters don't drop the items that were added? You can't. You seem way too eager to revert other people's edits. I stand up for myself, but I am more concerned that you do this to regular users' edits as well. I know if I started editing a wiki to help out, and was having my edits senselessly reverted I'd just leave. Chasing away new editors is bad. Please use more care when undoing other people's work. Basdeth 22:45, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

I would like to apologize as well. I was in a hurry when I wrote the above message, and so did not choose my words carefully. I did not mean to come as so angry. In any case, it's less that I was upset about having my edit reverted, and more that I am concerned about a pattern in your behavior. You tend to be quick to revert or completely change other people's edits when there is no need.
Anyway, I'll leave it at that. I don't mean to drag this out, just wanted to clarify a bit. Thanks for always being so understanding, and sorry for being such a pain haha. Basdeth 05:56, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
