RE: Character Page Template[edit source]

We (okay, some of the Wiki admins) had decided to not use a template for character pages anymore and just use rather basic inline coding instead. If you want to see the code, just check Fiona, Lann, or Evie's page. If there's something you don't understand about the code used in the pages, feel free to ask anyone about it. 〜Celadontalk 13:36, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Feedback[edit source]

Hello! I want to thank you for everything you have done for the Vindictus Wiki. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Tesla, a wiki manager for Curse. The reason I am posting on your talk page is for some feedback. I was hoping you could tell me if there was something you would like to see on the wiki or if you think there is something we could do to help improve the quality of our service to the community. If you have any ideas at all, please feel free to stop by on my talk page and leave my your thoughts. Thank you! Tesla 23:36, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Quick question about bosses with variations on their name.[edit source]

Chiulin currently has two pages, one named Novice Chiulin and one named Warrior Chiulin. In the battle quest menu the objective in What the Dead Leave Behind says to defeat Warrior Chiulin, but when you fight him in game on Normal mode his health bar says his name is Novice Chiulin. Should Novice Chiulin simply redirect to Warrior Chiulin? Warrior Chiulin seems to be the most correct name for this boss.

I think Ahglan should also have a page called Aghlan that redirects to Ahglan. The battle quest menu is Ahglan but on the item descriptions for his drops the game refers to Aghlan instead. Should the item descriptions be changed to Ahglan or have Aghlan (sic)? (sic) is used when it's a typo from the original source right? That's all that was bothering me, for now. --Masquerine

Yeah, there is only one Chiulin. The game just has his name differently when you fight him (his health bar) compared to the battle quest menu for What the Dead Leave Behind. In this case we should keep Warrior Chiulin and redirect Novice Chiulin to it. I'll give it a try. I'll try aghlan and ahglan too for redirecting (I didn't try redirecting a page yet). The only other "Chiulin" is the shadow version of him in Taking Initiative. It is simply Warrior Chiulin with a dark skin that will not drop items. He's just there to give you a hard time and behaves exactly as his real form does. A shadow version of Assassin Ekinar can also appear, but not at the same time as Chiulin's Shadow. Ingkara re-summons one at random when they are killed.
The polar bear should probably be listed separately as the behavior of the bear is different depending on the battle, and the items dropped are completely different. It looks pretty messy having both on the same page, and could confuse people. Dethrone the White Tyrant drops materials for the Sweetie Bear Set while White Tyrant's Challenge drops materials for the Lighter and Heavier Red Tyrant Set (there are two versions of the set). It also looks like there are duplicates of the red tyrant set pages, labeled as white tyrant set. I'll log into my fiona to confirm which is the correct version and go from there. I believe it is called the red tyrant set and not the white tyrant set (I can redirect this too). To make things worse Spoiler: (Episode 10) The polar bear will make a third appearance in a third battle, so having THAT bear also on the existing bear page would be horrible. I'll see what I can do to sort this unBEARable mess out. I think it is Episode 10 anyway, I know he has another battle at least.--Masquerine
Okay, so how does redirecting work exactly if the two pages already exist? I thought it said that the page you want to redirect it to needs to be blank, but that didn't work for me and now I'm confused. :) In the case of aghlan and ahglan since Aghlan doesn't exist yet what would I have to do to make it redirect to Ahglan? As well, what do I have to do to redirect Novice Chiulin to Warrior Chiulin? Once I understand this I'll be good to go!--Masquerine
Oh, that was easy. I was trying to do it from the arrow menu beside "View history" and it was giving me an error. Thanks for your help as always Sigilbaram. <3 --Masquerine

Enemies Listings[edit source]

I was just wondering what is your stance on having individual pages for each monster or create one single page for a certain monster type. Currently most monsters have their own pages, but we also have a Spiders page that composes of all the other spider templates and but it is rather redundant to have both methods of displaying information. Both methods have their pros and cons but I'd rather get some sort of approval of which one should be removed. Although removing the single Spiders page would be the easiest, I do like the idea of having all of a certain enemy onto one page similar to this [1] --Ɛαmes - ταłκ 00:09, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Pictures for armor sets that all characters can wear[edit source]

What are your thoughts on the formatting used for the pictures in armor sets, like on the Questions and Answers page for question #31? Should each character have a back/front view or should it just have a 3-in-1 picture of like (Fiona or Evie)/Lann/Karok for front/back views? I think it would be nice to display each character wearing the different sets, as it would give a better idea of how that character looks with it. If you disregard the amount of pictures needed and the amount that are currently missing for the armor sets, would the idea of having all 3/4 characters with pictures be a better option? It's debatable that there could only be one needed for either Fiona/Evie, though if we were to do this we'd might as well include both of them in the picture for a 4-in-1.
I could certainly supply the missing pictures (turning up my graphic settings so it all looks super sexy), as I am currently in the process of collecting every weapon and armor set in the game. I also have a level 70 Evie, level 63 Fiona, level 30 Karok and level 25~ Lann. I can work on leveling the Karok/Lann at any time to provide pictures for the Karok/Lann armor sets. Everything up to the level 61 sets would be fairly easy to obtain, and I already have most of those armor sets anyway. I already own some of the level 61 sets, such as frostheart hunter, raven, lorica, midnight wedding and a few others (only missing fallen angel leggings for that set). The more expensive sets (glas pants/colru shiny stone) I could get pictures of from guildies who already have the sets if need be. The multiple pictures for each character would only apply to ones that they can all wear and not the class-specific ones (class-specific have their own pages already, like Karok's version of the southern winter set), although there are quite a few that they can all wear. It wouldn't take me long to compile the necessary pictures and crop them as needed. There would need to be a couple of templates made/changed to accommodate the extra pictures, which is where you come in. I know how you love templates! :) --Masqtalk 20:48, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

The entire argument against doing this is how unfeasible it would be. If someone really dedicated comes along, such as yourself, who wants to put the effort into making it reality then I don't see why it couldn't be done. Some sort of consensus should definitely be reach on how we want to format these many images though. I personally don't like the idea of splicing them together as the resulting images would either be HUGE or each characters image would have to be shrunk. I think there is a limit on file size in the mediawiki software, but I could be mistaken on that part. I think I would personally prefer a method to include extra images in the layout of the equipment pages rather than cropping, scaling, and splicing the heck out of the individual images. I would say ask Bumble if she has an quams as well. I'm not sure how much server space we actually have and this could quadrupedal the numbers of our largest files. haha --Sigil Baramtalk 21:01, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
I asked Wynthyst about it on the IRC quick and she said not to worry about server space or anything so we just need to put together some sort of layout for displaying the images on the equipment pages. I would say add the character name in parenthesis when you upload views for multi-class equipment. File:Equipment piece (Lann) (View 1).png for example. For now don't worry about moving existing ones until we figure out how to display them. --Sigil Baramtalk 21:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Alright. In the mean time I'll work on compiling the pictures and I'll just save them on my computer until everything is sorted out (I won't crop or resize for now, just screenshot/save). When the time comes, I'll go on an upload spree and there shall be pictures for all! I think just having a separate image for each one would be the best way to do it, as you said. Would just have to play with the template/image size until we get something that will work out fine. That's all that was on my mind, for now. :) --Masqtalk 21:36, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm talking to Wyn about how she thinks we should work it out. She recomments not bothering with the individual pieces and focusing on the sets at least for now. We will probably end up making galleries or something so that we aren't putting as many images on the equipment pages themselves. She suggested moving things to seperate pages in some way like they do on Guild Wars Wiki. It would make our lives easier and the pages cleaner. We could put front views on the equipment pages themselves and move everything else to galleries so the equipment pages don't get cluttered. --Sigil Baramtalk 21:57, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

New Event[edit source]

Hi, I'm a Vindictus EU player and it seems we got some Event stories that weren't on the wiki, so I decided to add them. Problem is, is it correct to add them since it seems they only appeared on the EU version?

Another thing, one of the events has an exclusive area just for the event. How should this area be added to the boats section? --Sekuiya 15:25, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

What about the titles won on those events, is there some guidelines, having in mind they aren't available on NA?--Sekuiya 01:06, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
Vindictus NA was updated with the Christmas events of Event: Defend the Goodies!, Event: Post Decorating and Event: Making Little Men. The event boat should probably get added to the Hoarfrost Hollow boat section (as that is where it is located), with a note of (Event: Defend the Goodies!) beside it so people know (or something similar, maybe a separate section below the normal battles listing "Event Battles" or "Event Only". I'm not exactly sure how event battles are handled). The respective titles should go in the appropriate areas in the Titles page. If you are unsure, just leave it to me and I'll make sure it all gets added shortly. Sigil is working on sorting out EU/NA exclusive content with specific categories, as far as I know. That way we will be able to label everything correctly.

If there is a specific title/story/event for EU only, it would be a good idea to make a note somewhere on the page so people know. I think there's a tag for something like "this content may appear in a version overseas" or something. If need be Sigil will make a template and point us in the right direction for it (and add it to the things masq should remember!). --Masqtalk 01:23, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
I made a template based on some of our existing tags and using colors from the EU flag: Template:EU. I played around with combining light vs dark in the boarder and background and it seemed to look best having the border use the dark blue from the flag and then lightening the background. The devcat icon is conveniently similar to the stars in color. I put it on there to match the Stub and Unimplemented templates then noticed the color coincidence as I was fiddling around with things. --Sigil Baramtalk 07:14, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
By the way, this new update for Christmas, at least in the EU version, got some new outfits for some character in Colhen. Should these be added to the character page as "alternate outifts"? By the way, how did you get the portraits of the characters? --Sekuiya 20:19, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't update the individual character page for a one week event really. Maybe if we made an article about the event in general with an image gallery or something. We got the NPC images out of the data files but I can't seem to find the larger ones, only the smaller icons that appear in the chat. The people who uploaded the other images aren't really around anymore, or I would just ask them. :\ --Sigil Baramtalk 14:52, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Spam/Vandalism by new users/anons[edit source]

Come back to the wiki and ban some of these people for me. :D All I can do is undo the edits they do (if it's a page already created and needs to be kept) or remove the stuff they put and mark the page for deletion (if it's a new page, like the talk pages for random items). Nobody has been around for a few days to do anything about them. It annoys me that I can't do anything to stop them from continuing to spam advertisement links whenever they feel like it, besides editing and hoping someone will come by to clean up the mess. --Masqtalk 00:20, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I was wondering if we can have protection on all pages against non-users or change the rights of non-users to not be able to edit pages. I do realize there are some good anon's but I'm seeing significant vandalism that outweighs most tiny edits from the good anon's. The process of making an account would serve somewhat as a deterrent against plain vandals as well as block spambots if the filters are good enough. --Ɛαmes - ταłκ 22:11, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure why Sigil disabled the filter that was stopping it all, but I have reenabled it. And no we won't put protections on all pages, nor will we be restricting anonymous editing. --Wynthyst 05:43, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: Permaban[edit source]

Gotcha, so this also includes accounts that are made since there's an IP attached, yes? What would be the appropriate ban time? (I came from a very strict/zero tolerance for vandals type wiki where we blocked out entire countries) --Ɛαmes - ταłκ 04:35, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Data Files: Image Extraction/Battle Maps[edit source]

Do you know anything about extracting files from the game (maps, images, ect)? I vaguely remember you writing to someone about it, or mentioning the topic before. Anyway, the issue I've come across is the battles that need maps. If I was able to simply extract them from the data files so they look neat and clean it would save a ton of time and effort compared to screenshot/cropping/removing the player icons/ect. I've talked a bit with Akumo about it but he doesn't know how to go about it. The furthest I got on my own was making everything into zip files, and then I could open them/rename to view them as a picture file. The only thing I came across in the files when I looked was like monster textures and item textures, no maps. I was just wondering if I'm headed in the right direction with it if I were to keep looking through the 1,200 or so zip files, or if there's something else I should be doing instead to find the minimap files.

I also seem to have messed up the map section on Fomorian Order when I made the /maps page for it, and I'm not exactly sure how to fix it so it displays properly. All the correct maps for it are being used, I fumbled through that by looking at existing /maps pages to figure out the formatting of it. I think I understand it now. I'm just not sure why it's not displaying in a nice little box on the actual battle page.--Masqtalk 00:40, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Although Nexon gave us permission to datamine for the wiki, stuff about data mining has been kept off the wiki so far. For various reason it seems right to keep it that way so I'll try emailing you about instead of putting it here.
Also if you need anything there is the Wiki IRC. A lot of this stuff is easier to figure out in a real time chat. I'm usually on there when I'm home unless my chat client is being temperamental. I'm not sure if the IRC has been pointed out to you since you never got hit by the welcome bot.
As for the map section in Fomorian Order... I'm looking at it and I'm not sure why it is doing that... --Sigil Baramtalk 05:32, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

EU content[edit source]

Sorry to bother you again with questions about EU content. I was looking at the skill for Spear Lann and noticed that our Fury Infusion works in a completely different way. It simply raises the damage you do when dodging. So I guess a new page should be created for it, but how should I name it? Fury Infusion (EU) ? And should there be any info on the actual page redirecting for that page in case they were looking for the EU version? I'll be waiting for your answer. Sekuiya 21:44, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

As far as I know the description seems to be the same in every class, would have to verify the icons. But if we look at the VDB it seems it has different icons for each class, except for Lann and Fiona. Aside from the icons I guess all the rest is the same. Will be sure to use that template if I find skills that act differently! Btw, just remembered! Gliding Fury seems to be a sword skill only in our version (unless I reached level 63 and never figured out how to use it on spears...). I heard both sword and spears can use it on the US version. Should we make some kind of note in the details of the skill? Sekuiya 01:37, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Jersey Spambot[edit source]

So a week or two ago this guy shows up and starts making new talk pages to insert his gibberish jersey spam into. At first he was using the same IP, so it was simple to block it for a few days and clean up the mess. Now he's using a different IP for every single new page, so IP blocking is useless. I've been deleting his spam and protecting the pages so he can't edit them again, but I think he won't stop until every single talk page on the wiki has been made with his spam.

Think you could do something about it? His messages are similar each time, always having jersey in them. I remember you having edited the filters before, so that's why I ask. This guy is annoying. --Masqtalk 13:36, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Looks like your filter is working, no sign of that spambot anymore. Thanks Sigil! --Masqtalk 16:31, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Re: New Pages and Templates[edit source]

Hey there, yeah I wanted to point out that it might be better if the templates were fixed first, seems like that's what causes the chaotic state Evie's page is in. Actually what bothered me at first was the dead links if someone tried to check a list of weapons. Each weapon's category still works fine, maybe we could link to them temporarily? By the way, I'm trying to be an active contributor and I want to help anyway I can (I'm playing the EU version, I've talked a bit with Nedigo and Masquerine). So if you need me on something feel free to tell me. Lon3wolf 14:34, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

(Late response but anyway) Well actually I was looking at Evie's page as it was before it was blanked, so it's not a big deal. Lon3wolf 11:14, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Shop Query Template[edit source]

Hi, I'm new to wiki editing but I noticed with the new season 2 update, there's the seal currency for some of the npc shop. With that in mind, I want to ask if I could create a new template for the seal shop using your npc shop query template. Since the format for shop hasn't change, I figure that if I could use your template, I just need to change the property to where the template get the item contents from. FuzzHobo (talk) 14:44, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Did you need help with it or where you just asking for permission? It sounds like you just want permission, and if so, then thanks for asking, but it isn't really needed. I may have wrote it but it belongs to the wiki so to speak. If you need help, then let me know what you need help with. --Sigilbaram (talk) 01:17, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Duplicate/Missing Results[edit source]

Glad to see that the Nighthawk/Champion weapon duplicates have now been fixed. However a lot of armor/weapons have stopped appearing on the List of Equipment pages along with item icons. --Sanitee (talk) 16:28, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

We had to clear out everything and rebuild the data in order to the resolve the duplicates. The script that does that is supposed to have finished running, but it sounds like it missed some things. I'll run a bot that should fix them. --Sigilbaram (talk) 18:05, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
Awesome, looks like everything is back now. Thanks! --Sanitee (talk) 03:54, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Expression error: Unexpected < operator[edit source]

Expression error: Unexpected < operator

The above error displays on Armor Sets like Armageddon & Noblesse, under "Total Effects". After messing around for awhile, it seems like when the total effects tries to auto tally the stats for the set, if a stat is > 1000, the error occurs. I have tried to find a way to fix it, but it seems to be an issue that only it admin can address.
