Return to Gwynn and tell her that Kirstie can't read the gnoll language.
Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

You're back!

So, the huntress couldn't read the document?
Surprise, surprise.

(She looks at Marrec.)
It was ridiculous of you to even suggest such an absurb [sic] thing.

Marrec (NPC Icon).png Marrec

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

Anyway, let's look at what we know. The gnolls are gathering at
the Ruins of Sanctity. If they are indeed joining the Fomors...

(Gwynn shakes her head.)
That would change everything. And not in our favor.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

Okay, I have made a decision. I give the Crimson Blades
permission to investigate this matter.

But know this: Whatever the outcome, you will be fully

In the meantime, I will go to Rocheste to see if I can find someone
who can read this blasted document. And...

(Gwynn looks hesitantly around the room.)
Stay safe out there.

Marrec (NPC Icon).png Marrec

Strange, I could've sworn Kirstie told me she could speak and write

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

Gwynn was right. This situation demands investigation. And since
she hasn't the authority to go herself, it's up to us.

<Fiona>, head into the ruins. See what you can find.

{npc}
You received information on Battle: Ruins of Sanctity.
Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

Head deep into the Ruins of Sanctity. No other Blade has ever
ventured that far.

Ceara (NPC Icon).png Ceara

Nobody knows why the place is called the "Ruins of Sanctity."
Some say we took the name the gnolls have for the place...

But even the Pontiff's Court and the Royal Army call it by that name.
In any case, be careful. We have no idea what you'll encounter.

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

We're counting on you, <Fiona>.

{npc}
You learned the Story: Weapon of Sanctity.
Complete Ruins of Sanctity and return to Aodhan.
Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

You made it back in one piece. What did you discover?

(You tell him about fighting the gnoll clad in silver plate armor
that wielded twin axes. Aodhan nods, not at all surprised.)

That gnoll must be the king's right hand man. The king himself
wears gold, his second will wear silver.

Since you've defeated his second, the gnoll king cannot stand idly
by. He will likely make an appearance next time you're in the ruins.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

It is gallingly difficult to find someone who speaks Gnollish! How
have things progressed here? Is...everyone safe?

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

<Fiona>'s just returned after defeating the gnoll king's second.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

His second? A gnoll of such high rank wouldn't idly wander
through the Ruins of Sanctity. They must be plotting something.

But until we can read this document, we have no way of knowning
WHAT. And I will not march men blindly into battle again...

Captain Aodhan, is therea a chance the town magician reads

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

Brynn? His work mostly consists of research. I suppose it's

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

It doesn't hurt to ask. We have nothing to lose. <Fiona>, summon
Brynn to the Mercenary Outpost.

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

(Aodhan looks as if he's choosing his word [sic] very carefully.)
Brynn...does not leave his laboratory.

It may be better to take the document to him.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

(Gwynn looks annoyed.)
He doesn't leave his laboratory? What's that supposed to mean?

Nevermind, I get it. I am well-acquainted with the idiosyncrasies
of magician-types. Ill-tempered and finicky, the lot of them.

Very well, I will go see him myself. <Fiona>, lead me to him. I'd
like you to come along, too, Captain Aodhan, if you have time.

You learned the Story: Woof Woof!.
Ask Brynn if he knows the gnoll language.
Brynn (NPC Icon).png Brynn

(Brynn looks completely flustered. Reilly is prancing through the
lab, knocking over papers and playing with vials.)

Master, not that vial! I need that one! Put it down,
please, you crazy old coot!

Not that flask, either! Put it down, gently now! Don't spill a single
drop of it or my month-long experiment will--

Reilly (NPC Icon).png Reilly

(Reilly slams the flask on the table, splashing liquid everywhere.)
Stop me if you can! Try! Try! Wrong formula anyway. Yucky.

(Reilly giggles maniacally.)
Come on, catch me! Fun game, funny game!

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

What is all this commotion!?

Reilly (NPC Icon).png Reilly

Eeek, scary soldier lady. Me no like, no like. I'm out of here!

Brynn (NPC Icon).png Brynn

Oh, thank the goddess. Finally.

(Brynn turns attentively to the three of you. He nods at Gwynn.)
What brings you here, Gwynn? How may I be of assistance?

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

(Gwynn is staring at the door Reilly just left through.)
Who was that man?

Brynn (NPC Icon).png Brynn

Oh, don't mind him. He's just a senile old loon who drinks too
much. His greatest joy is disrupting me in my work.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

I...I believe I recognize him from somewhere. I can't quite put my
finger on it...

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

(Brynn shrugs. Before Gwynn can press further,
Aodhan speaks up.)

Brynn, can you read Gnollish?

Brynn (NPC Icon).png Brynn

(Brynn blinks.)
Gnollish? Ask Kirstie.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

We've asked her. She says she is unfamiliar with the language,
which is why we've come to you...

Brynn (NPC Icon).png Brynn

(Brynn looks thoughtful.)
Is that so? Then I am sorry to have to disappoint you.

I cannot read or speak Gnollish, either. My apologies.

Gwynn (NPC Icon).png Gwynn

(Gwynn nods.)
I expected as much. Thank you for your time.

I should've known a magician in a small town like Colhen wouldn't
have the skills I need. I'm heading back to the outpost now.

Aodhan (NPC Icon).png Aodhan

And I, as well. <Fiona>, if you wish to stay and speak with Brynn for
a bit, be my guest.

Brynn (NPC Icon).png Brynn

(When the other two have gone, Brynn turns to you.
His voice is low, and his words rush out in a jumble.)

<Fiona>. You brought a member of the Royal Army HERE, to my
lab. Never, EVER do that again. Am I making myself clear?

Think, <Fiona>! Though soldiers of the Royal Army are posted at
your outpost, they send their enchants to Rocheste, not to me.

That's because the few times they've asked for enchants, my hands
have slipped, or my table shook, or my ingredients were spoilt.

They've attributed the botched enchants to bad luck or my lack
of skill, but now they have no reason to come to my lab.

This is the ONE place soldiers never go. It is
Nyle's only safe haven. And then YOU lead them directly here!

(Brynn takes a deep breath and calms down somewhat.)
We're lucky Nyle wasn't here today.

Listen, of course I speak Gnollish, but if Kirstie lied, she must
have had good reason.

So why don't you lend Kirstie a hand instead
of putting Nyle in further danger?
