Details[edit | edit source]
Devil in the Water is the second Season 2 Raid Battle. It puts a group of up to 8 players against the Kraken, a massive octopus. The related story for this battle is Demon from the Depths. From the Depths is an identical raid battle, but not story related. Both battles have their own daily limit. Teamwork is essential to successfully complete this battle. The information below is based off of Lv. 70 - 80. Damage done by tentacles is reduced for lower difficulties.
There is a mechanic with the Kraken in this battle: Boat Durability. Every time the Kraken's tentacles land on deck, the durability of the boat goes down. If the durability reaches 0, the Kraken destroys the boat and the battle ends in failure. It is possible to prevent the tentacles from ever hitting the boat and taking durability by having someone attack each tentacle.
There are four phases to this battle. Phase One is the start of the battle. Four tentacles (two per side) will spawn and a player needs to attack each one of them. Failure to repel the tentacles will allow them to damage the boat. The other four players can attack the Kraken's head. The Kraken will use a roar attack that will hit all players on deck from time to time. Flinching or having a Karok clash the roar will prevent the damage from being done. It is possible to block the attack or dodge the hit using skills, or by jumping at the right time.
Phase Two begins when the Kraken has 7 bars of HP left. Two additional tentacles spawn (one per side), but these ones cannot be attacked. They will periodically throw objects at players, throw mobs onto the deck or grab players. If a player is grabbed, someone else needs to spear the sucker side of the tentacle to free the grabbed player. If the grabbed player is not freed the Kraken eats them, which kills them and spits their body out. If a player is killed from the grab, someone from the head should take over their Phase one tentacle and another player from the head should revive them. Everyone from Phase one on tentacles should remain on their tentacle.
Phase Three begins at 4 bars of HP left. Everything from Phase One and Phase Two still applies. Two additional tentacles (one per side) spawn at the back of the boat. Just like Phase One, these tentacles must be attacked to prevent them from damaging the boat. These tentacles do not attack players. Failure to repel these tentacles will damage the boat, and they deal more damage than Phase One tentacles. They will also remain on the boat, and will continue to deal damage until they are knocked off. It is very difficult for a single player to remove these tentacles once they are on the boat. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to the group's success to repel these two tentacles at all costs.
Phase Four is ending the battle. At 1/2 bar of HP left, the Kraken stops attacking, cannot be damaged and a message appears on screen. A single player must climb to the back of the boat and step on the blue glowing circle. This will fire a harpoon into the Kraken's head, killing it.
Completing any one of the difficulties uses your battle limit for the day on the other difficulties. This is a story related battle, and can only be hosted by a player currently on the story. It can only be hosted and completed once by that player. If another player hosts, someone who has already completed the story will still be able to join. You must choose the difficulty that suits your character's level for the story. If the story is completed, you may choose to join any difficulty. If you have not unlocked the related story for this battle, you will be unable to join it.
