Break Off

Break Off is a term indicating when a player attacks a particular location on a Boss (or sub boss) several times, an item possessed by it will fall off.

Description[edit]

When the vulnerable area is hit by a sufficiently powerful attack or object, it may twitch due to the injury (ex. Sturdy Emuloch will hold his left arm and shake it twice).

After several such attacks, the item will be successfully broken off and will fall from the boss as an Evil Core with a question mark above it. It can only be obtained after the boss's defeat. Certain broken items may fall on the ground and be usable, albeit for only one hit.

In order to obtain a break off, you must impact the spot using either a Spear, objects (preferably large, such as a pillar piece), or skills, namely Counterattack, SP: Shield Bash, Double Crescent, Windmill, Gliding Fury, Lightning Fury, Active: Fury No.7, Firebolt, and Smash attacks.
Some enemies, like the Giant Polar Bear, have break off spots that cannot be reached normally and must be attacked using a spears or objects.
You can damage break off points when the enemy is knocked down, but you must wait until the reaction animation finishes before you can land another break off hit. Successful hits during the reaction animation won't count. An exception to this is Ahglan.

The Blood Prince Blood Prince Gauntlet Located on his Spear Arm and falls after five hits. (He violently whips his arm back looking down staggering one step back)
Goliath Goliath Back Leg Tendon Located on its Right Hind Leg and falls after five hits. (It will violently shake his red back leg. The leg may not show red on low graphic settings. It also injures itself often when jumping into pillars.)
Warchief Black Scar (Gnoll King, Ruler of the Ruins) Black Scar Battle Mask Located on his Face and falls after three hits. (He staggers back violently taking his hand to his head)

Warrior Chiulin Chiulin Horn Fragment Located on his right back horn and breaks after four hits. (2 hits flinch, 2 flinches total)
Assassin Ekinar Ekinar Horn Fragment Located on his right back horn and breaks after four hits. (2 hits flinch, 2 flinches total)
Thor Thor Inner Mouth Requires at least two people with Chain Hooks to pry open its mouth, in which others then furiously attack the beast's tongue. Spearing the tongue takes 10 hits to break. Waiting too long between hits causes the tongue to regenerate health, requiring additional hits to break.
Ahglan Multiple Break Offs Has 9 different Break Offs that require Sticky Bombs. The head breaks after one hit. The right foot shell breaks after 5 hits and the right foot ore breaks after 1 hit. The left and right hand shells break after 8 hits each. The ores in the left and right hands break after 1 hit each. The chest shell breaks after 6 hits, and the chest ore breaks after 1 hit.
Cloyan Cloyan's Mask Located on his face and breaks off after 4 hits.
Ingkells Ingkells Shoulderguard Fragment Located on his left shoulder and breaks after three hits.
Strategy Chief Roperem Located on his right shoulder guard and breaks off after 3 hits.
Glas Ghaibhleann Torn Glas Ghaibhleann Feather Located on its right wing and requires at one Chain Hooks attached to it to flinch, and breaks after two flinches.
Shining Shakarr Shakarr's Warped Horn Located on his head and breaks after 2 hits.
Controlled Black Hammer Bone Blade Fragment and Destroyed Horned Belt Located on his mask and his belt, respectively, and breaks after six hits each. (3 hits flinch, 2 flinches total) (Moves backward, and have his left hand on his shoulder.)
Verafim Verafim's Staff Located in Verafim's hands, who rides on top of Lionotus. The number of hits to break varies on what secondary weapons are used. Gift sticky bombs take 18 hits, real sticky bombs take 6 hits, spears and fine spears both take 11 hits. A combination of these secondary weapons will lead to a different amount of hits to break. Verafim's staff can also be broken from transformation orbs.
